Access request

Access to the Precision Medicine Computing & Storage Platform is granted on a project basis.
All users must submit an access request and receive formal approval before using any service.

This process ensures security, traceability, and compliance with GDPR and ISO/IEC 27001 requirements.

Who can request access

This platform is intended for:

  • Professors, researchers, PhD students, and postdoctoral researchers of the University of Bologna
  • Master’s degree students of the University of Bologna involved in thesis projects (HPC access only)
  • Research groups within the University of Bologna working with biomedical and clinical data
  • Authorized external collaborators participating in approved research projects with the University of Bologna

Access to services is granted on a project basis following a formal authorization process.

The authorization process, access conditions, and applicable policies are described in the relevant sections of the platform website, including Access & Eligibility and Policies & Governance.

Available services

When submitting your request, you may request access to one or both of the following services:

  • HPC self-service computing

    • CPU and GPU resources
    • Job scheduling via SLURM

  • Geodistributed S3 storage

    • Secure object storage for research and medical datasets
    • Controlled data sharing within a project

Each service is enabled only if explicitly requested and approved.

Prerequisites

Before submitting the access request, ensure that you have:

  • A clearly defined research project
  • A designated Project Principal Investigator (PI)
  • Completed mandatory GDPR/data protection training (if required)
  • Identified the type of data you plan to use (e.g. open, pseudonymized, sensitive)

Requests involving medical or sensitive data may require additional approvals.

Access requests must be submitted through the official request forms available on the platform website.

You may be contacted during the evaluation process for additional information or clarification.

Access is granted only after formal approval and is limited to the scope and duration of the approved project.

After approval

Once your request has been approved:

  • Your user account will be created
  • Access to the requested services will be enabled
  • You will receive connection details and initial instructions

Provisioning times may vary depending on project complexity.

Project-based access model

Access is granted:

  • For a specific project
  • For a limited duration
  • Only to the resources explicitly approved

Access rights are defined and managed according to formal procedures and may be subject to periodic review.

Any change in project scope, duration, or data type must be communicated and may require a new review.

Responsibilities of users

By requesting access, users agree to:

  • Use the platform only for approved research activities
  • Comply with security and data handling requirements
  • Not share credentials or grant access to unauthorized users
  • Promptly report security incidents or data breaches

Failure to comply may result in suspension or revocation of access.
